Stevia Lemonade and Lemon Water

Lemon Water!!
It is so good for you, but I never thought I'd like it, until now!    All the health experts that I know and respect say that even though it is acidic in the glass, etc., once inside the body the minerals in it cause the body to become alkaline, which is good for most of us who eat a lot of meat and dairy and other things that are very acidic and could disrupt the acid/alkaline balance that the body has to maintain.  Another way to maintain that balance is by eating raw vegetables and fruits...which I try to do but sometimes, I just don't.  And I have lots of good reasons...raw foods are very perishable, they are expensive, especially the yummy chemical free ones and so on...plus a lot of time I am just too full from all the meat and dairy I eat and I don't want to eat raw vegetables.  Okay so I just said all that because it's the truth AND because I want to tell you about my recipe for Stevia Lemon Water.

Take a glass jar that holds one quart of liquid.  Fill it about 1/4 full with ice.
Then squeeze one MEDIUM lemon into the jar.
Add 2 tiny scoops of KAL stevia to the mixture and start filling the jar up with good clean water.

Notes about water**(I use filtered well water for this because it is clean and tastes good!  I think good tasting spring water would work or even tap water filtered through a good filter).

Notes about lemon**(The medium size makes this perfect.  I would use two tiny ones or 3/4 of a large one but the medium is best).
Also, NEVER put the lemon peel into your drinking water unless you KNOW it is chemical free.  I am told that a mold retardant is added to the outside of citrus fruits to keep them fresh enough to keep for days in the store.  I sometimes use non-organic lemons because of price and availability constraints,  but I never use the peel..not even the zest,  in anything, unless I am assured that it's chemical free.

I have several reasons for sharing this with you today:

I have had sluggish kidneys for years and sometimes they even hurt a little in the morning if I don't drink enough water the day before, or if I just drink stuff I shouldn't.  I have heard it said before that the lucky person is the one that has the bad reactions to bad substances.  I guess I am one of those; so I thought I'd share with some of you less fortunate people who never hear from your kidneys..

Also, I make stones...gall stones, kidney stones...who knows where all.  If the body is too acidic, it will try to alkalinize itself.  If we are not consuming enough alkalinizing foods/drinks and the body has no other choice it will take calcium(which is very alkaline) from our bones and teeth and use it to bring us back into a state of balance.  Not good! Nobody told me this but I'm thinking....all that calcium having to be removed from the very framework of our bodies and most stones are made of calcium....I might be wrong, but couldn't over acidity and kidney stones be related?

Lemon water is cheap insurance against many, many health problems, if you don't believe me ask Google.  I drink a quart of this several times a week and the silence from my kidneys is deafening on this issue for a change!

Almost everybody around here loves it. (They think it's lemonade.)   I gave you the formula for the quart but I'm about to make a GALLON because it is the weekend and everybody just gobbles it up....my teenage son  and little granddaughter just stand there with their cups and wait for me to make the lemon water!  My son thinks it is better than the sports drinks he usually drinks and my grand daughter thinks she can drink all she wants and nobody cuts her off.

Now if you want to make Lemonade instead of just the day-to-day lemon water...this is all you need to do:
Lemonade by the Glass
Decrease the water in the above recipe  to:
12 oz instead of 24 (so 3/4 of a pint jar instead of 3/4 of a quart jar)
Add the 1 lemon just like above
Add the same amount of stevia
Sounds simple but it works!
The only thing I've noticed is that the sourness of lemons will vary and you might have to adjust the stevia accordingly.

  1. Well, this blogging idea is a good thing! A lot more fun than an email, and we can come back to it later.

And, do tell the 'turtlehull' connection!

Lemon water I know about, but I don't keep enough lemons around. Would a drop or two of lemon essential oil do the same? That was my 'never get around to shopping' idea.

  2. Hi Diana - thanks for your comment..I'm hoping the blog thing will help me keep in touch with some people I miss and maybe share some helpful info with them and others. It's hard for me because I'm really a one on one sort of information sharer but I have to accept that the world has really changed and try to adapt. I'm told by people who know a lot more about essential oils than I do that essential oils would work the same or better than the humble lemon, but I'm also told that you should be careful that you use a brand that is intended for internal use. I've always used Young Living for internal use, but I'm not an expert just a very enthusiastic user because I've always gotten good results using that brand.
